Vernon L. "Punk" Whitaker

"Punk" Whitaker died in the line of duty on July 7, 1959 while attempting to rescue someone drowning at the Sardis Reservoir. To date he is the only line of duty death at the Batesville Fire Department .

Engine 8 is dedicated in his memory
